Garmin Fenix 6 Sapphire Hands-On

Hello tekies I got my Garmin Fenix 6 today Unlike typical smartwatches in the market, this one has plenty of buttons. There’s three on the left and two on the right. All of them are metal, which matches the premium case. The buttons are there for navigation because it doesn’t have a touch display. More on that later.
                                                    

Under the watch is a titanium covering that houses the sensors and the charging port. From here, you can also access the latch to remove the strap.
                                                 

Now, let’s talk about the display. It has a 1.3-inch screen with a 260 x 260 resolution and protected by sapphire glass. Unlike other smartwatches that use AMOLED screens, the Fenix 6 uses a sunlight-visible, transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) colored screen. The quality isn’t great when you use the LED backlight, but when viewed under a strong light source, like the sun or artificial lighting, it’s one of the clearest displays I’ve ever seen. This is perfect for hiking or running outdoors during the day, as the screen is always visible.
 
                                            

The Fenix 6 Sapphire has a size of 47 x 47 x 14.7 mm. If you like big watches, you’ll love this one. It’s chunky, a bit hefty, but comfortable and very attractive.      As for the features, it’s got tons! You have your usual clock features with GPS Time Sync, automatic daylight saving time, and sunrise/sunset times. For sensors, it has GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, heart rate, barometric altimeter, compass, gyroscope, accelerometer, thermometer, Pulse Ox, and a 10ATM water resistance.

Given the mentioned features and premium materials, the Fenix 6 Sapphire comes with a hefty price tag of PHP 54,995.

Sony Announces Xperia devices to get Android10

Sony has announced the smartphones that will get the Android 10 upgrade.

               

In a blog post, Sony said that the flagship Xperia 1 and the Xperia 5 will receive Android 10 this December. Then in early 2020 onwards, the Xperia 10, 10 Plus, XZ2, XZ2 Compact, XZ2 Premium, and XZ3 devices will get it as well.
Do note that software rollouts are a phased process so timing and availability will vary depending on the market or operator.

Hyundai launches Sonata Hybrid

Hyundai Motor Company has launched its first hybrid car with a solar roof charging system, the new Sonata Hybrid.





Hyundai aims to address the issue of driving range innate with electric engines by outfitting silicon solar panels on the roofs of its cars. These solar panels can charge the car’s battery even while users are driving, providing an extra 30-60% charge during the day. Annually, the extra charge from the solar panels could increase travel distance by 1,300 km.
Hyundai paired the electric motor with a Smartstream G2.0 GDi HEV engine for a total output of 195ps. This mechanical-electric combo can travel 41-42 miles per gallon compared to the standard versions of the Sonata which can only go 26-31mpg.
Currently, the Sonata Hybrid is only available in South Korea, however, Hyundai plans to release the car in the North American market soon. Hyundai is also looking to outfit their future hybrids with this technology too.

PCC orders Grab to refund riders PHP 5.05 MILLION

The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) has announced that it is ordering Grab to refund its customers PHP 5.05 million.



On November 18, the PCC has announced that it fined Grab amounting to PHP 23.45 million for breaching its pricing commitment during the 1st to 3rd quarters of the initial Undertaking. It covers a PHP 11.3 million penalty for the 1st quarter, PHP 7.1 million for the 2nd quarter, and PHP 5.05 million for the 3rd quarter. The latter will kick off the refund to affected Grab riders.
 
 
One of Grab’s commitments includes a System-Wide Average Fare Cap commitment. which says that “Grab shall ensure that its Overall Average Fare for the monitoring month shall not exceed the System-Wide Average Fare Cap for the corresponding month. The monthly average fare cap restricts Grab’s ability to increase prices beyond pre-transaction levels, limiting the average fare increase to 22.5% in most months.”


“In the event that Grab breaches its monthly average fare cap commitment, PCC shall fine Grab PHP 2 million per month. As additional deterrence, the Commission also introduced the disgorgement system wherein Grab shall return to its riders its commissions in excess of the System-Wide Average Fare Cap for the affected month.”
 
In a statement sent to CNN Philippines, Grab Philippines said that they will be paying a total computed amount of PHP 5,050,000 to the passengers who took Grab rides from February until May 2019.
 
 
The PCC wants Grab to pay the affected riders directly through their individual GrabPay accounts within 30 days from Grab’s receipt of PCC’s notice of the breach. The amount to be refunded shall be in proportion to the fares paid by the riders during the relevant month.

SsangYong launches 2020 Tivoli

SsangYong Philippines recently launched its 2020 version of the Tivoli equipped with diesel-powered engines.



There are two variants to the new 2020 SsangYong Tivoli: the 1.6L Diesel Premium AT and the 1.6L Diesel Sport AT. Both sport the same e-XDi160 Turbo Diesel engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission capable of 136PS and 324Nm of torque.



Inside the Tivoli, there’s a 10.25-inch Color TFT display for the console, as well as an 8-inch (premium)/6.2-inch multimedia display. The seats are covered in leatherette (premium) or black fabric (sport) with 6-way manual adjustment.


For safety, the 2020 Tivoli sport is equipped with dual airbags while the premium variant also comes with side and curtain airbags. There are also several smart features and sensors to help with on the road safety such as:
